Choice is an essential ingredient in our approach, which is why we provide a wide variety of classes and programs to choose from. Our innovative offerings include art, STEM, MakerSpace, world languages, academics enrichment, outdoor and urban adventures, cooking, sports, and many more specialty offerings.

Programs reflect our focus on innovative and immersive experiences. Our outstanding team of teachers and counselors help provide an environment where every camper feels free to be themselves, where creativity is allowed to flourish, and where the focus is on friendships and play. Most of all, Summer at MPA is a welcoming place where campers feel known.

Block 1
8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Build up writing on demand stamina and practice editing and revision skills. Explore how games can serve as powerful tools to spark creativity, overcome writer’s block, and make the writing process enjoyable. Participate in constructive feedback sessions, fostering a supportive environment for writers to share and improve their work.

In this course we will get hands on with safe and fun electronics circuits.  We will discover the fundamentals of electronics by creating our own circuits and electronics projects.  We will learn to solder, make blinking lights, and might even burn out some LEDs.  WARNING: these experiments might be awesome. There is a $25 material fee.

“Super Smash Bros Tournaments” is an exhilarating competitive gaming experience that brings together iconic characters from various gaming franchises to engage in intense battles. Whether you’re a casual player enjoying friendly matches with friends or a competitive gamer participating in high-stakes tournaments, Super Smash Bros Tournaments offer an inclusive and thrilling gaming experience that celebrates the rich history of video games. There is a $25 tech fee.

Join the fabulous and fun Ms. Laura in the kitchen to learn the basics of baking while getting to eat your projects! This class is beginner-friendly and will help students grasp the foundation of how their favorite treats are made so that they can continue to make their own. There is a $25 material fee.

Welcome to Graphic Novels summer camp! This exciting camp is designed for students who love to read and create their own comics and graphic novels. During camp, students will have the opportunity to explore the world of graphic novels and comics through reading and analyzing different graphic novels, as well as creating their own comics and graphic novels. Students will learn about the different elements of comics and graphic novels, such as storyboarding, paneling, and character development. They will also learn about the history of comics and graphic novels and how they have evolved over time. Our experienced instructors will guide students through the process of creating their own comics and graphic novels, including developing characters and storylines, drawing and inking, and adding color and text. Students will also have the opportunity to work in small groups to collaborate on comics and graphic novels. Throughout the session, students will also have the opportunity to participate in fun and interactive activities, such as drawing and sketching challenges, comic book trivia, and cosplay workshops. By the end of the session, students will have a completed comic or graphic novel of their own, as well as a deeper understanding of the world of comics and graphic novels. This camp is perfect for students who have a passion for reading and creating comics and graphic novels, and want to develop their skills and knowledge in this exciting field.

In this session, students will explore whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and their relationships. Through games, puzzles, and activities, they will strengthen their understanding of place value, arithmetic operations, and the importance of estimation in solving real-world problems. 

Get ready for a daily dose of slime magic! Each day, students will explore a new recipe, technique, or theme to create their own unique slime masterpiece! Dive into the science behind slime-making! Learn about the properties of different materials, chemical reactions, and the art of experimentation—all while having a blast with hands-on activities.There is a $25 material fee.

Students will develop story ideas with small production teams, practice shooting and editing techniques to create a cohesive narrative, and apply the design thinking process: from iterating on their projects to offering peer critiques. Students will learn the three stages of film production, storytelling techniques on-camera acting; techniques; Camera/iPad shooting techniques; editing in iMovie Students will create: Silent Film; Super Hero Film; Fairy Tale Film; Fable Story. From pre-production storyboarding and scriptwriting to filming, all the way through post-production editing, the students are sure to make great friendships and great films all while sharpening their skills!

Join the Chess Superstars Club and Chess Wizard Robert Simpson to learn and/or elevate your skills in the game of chess! We welcome all levels of experience and our priority is to make learning chess a fun, engaging experience for all students! Coach Robert Simpson will provide guided teaching, exciting tournaments, mind-challenging puzzles, and the opportunity to earn chess keychains!

Students will explore three-dimensional forms. Using clay, papier-mache, cardboard, found objects, and recycled materials, students will create free-standing sculptures and reliefs on the surface and experiment with assemblages. They will depict figures, animals, fantastic creatures, and abstract structures. The title says it all! Come together to play some of old classics and some new board games as well. Enjoy fun camaraderie with your fellow campers. Games include: Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza card game, Taco V Burrito, UNO, Headbandz, Trouble, Mousetrap, Battleship, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Bingo, and more! The class will also include lessons on how to play in a fair and competitive manner and how to be a good sport. In addition, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills as they learn to play these games. This class is perfect for students who love games and want to learn and play new games with their peers.

Instill good digital citizenship habits by promoting respectful and responsible behavior within the virtual space. Participants will learn about online etiquette, teamwork, and the importance of a positive gaming community. Experienced instructors will guide participants through the Minecraft universe, offering tips, tricks, and inspiration. Foster a sense of curiosity as children explore different biomes, uncover hidden treasures, and encounter unique challenges.

Discover the colorful world of melty beads and unleash your creativity! Join in our “Melty Beads Unleash Your Creativity” class, and experience a world where there are no limits to your imagination and creativity! The class will guide you through the art of creating vibrant and intricate designs using fuse beads, also known as melty beads or Perler beads. There is a $25 material fee.

Get ready for two weeks of Flag Football and fun! At our Flag Football Camp, we focus on building skills and gaining confidence with basic and advanced techniques. Players also benefit from technical and tactical training with age-appropriate activities such as tactics under the pressure of an opponent and game conditions. We keep it fun and lively!

Session 2–Algebraic Adventures

Get ready to unlock the mysteries of algebra! The second session will focus on variables, equations, and patterns. Students will learn to express relationships between quantities using algebraic expressions, solve equations, and explore the power of patterns and sequences through engaging exercises and creative problem-solving challenges.

“PE Olympics” is an action-packed and challenging summer camp class for elementary school students. In this class, students will participate in a variety of physical activities, games, and challenges inspired by the Olympic Games. They will learn the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship as they compete in friendly competitions, both in teams and individually. The class will be taught by a experienced and enthusiastic physical education instructor who will guide the students through the process of learning the different sports and activities.

Embark on a literary adventure with “The Author in Me,” a two-week session designed to ignite the creativity of elementary and middle school students. This immersive class invites young wordsmiths to explore the world of award-winning authors, delve into the intricacies of the writing process, and ultimately craft and publish their own masterpiece.

Welcome to the Cardboard Challenge Summer Camp! This exciting camp is designed for elementary school students who are looking for a fun and creative way to spend their summer. Our campers will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials to create unique and innovative projects. Campers will engage in a variety of activities and challenges that will help them develop their problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. They will work in small groups to complete a series of challenges that will test their creativity, ingenuity, and perseverance. By the end of the camp, campers will have developed a greater understanding of the many uses of cardboard and the importance of recycling and repurposing materials. They will also have a sense of pride in the projects they have created and the skills they have developed.

We strive to cover basketball fundamentals and team-oriented play while creating a positive atmosphere where boys and girls will learn and have fun. Our skilled coaches work with each athlete to develop the skills of passing, posting, and scoring in the paint, offensive and defensive rebounding, blocking-out, fast-break outlet passing, using screens, and shooting. In addition, players will work on how to get open, footwork, triple-threat position, one-on-one moves, ball-handling, and passing skills. Athletes who attend this camp will leave the camp with a better understanding of the game and the individual requirements of each position on the floor.

Designed for all skill levels, this summer camp class will introduce young chefs to the joys of cooking. Throughout the week, students will learn about kitchen safety, measuring ingredients, and different cooking techniques. They will also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with various kitchen tools and appliances. Each day, students will learn how to follow recipes, make substitutions, and make adjustments to suit their own tastes. In addition to learning how to cook, students will also learn about nutrition. They will learn how to read labels, understand ingredient lists, and make healthy choices when it comes to cooking. This class is a great opportunity for students to learn new skills, explore their creativity, and have fun in the kitchen. There is a $25 material fee.

“Super Smash Bros Tournaments” is an exhilarating competitive gaming experience that brings together iconic characters from various gaming franchises to engage in intense battles. Whether you’re a casual player enjoying friendly matches with friends or a competitive gamer participating in high-stakes tournaments, Super Smash Bros Tournaments offer an inclusive and thrilling gaming experience that celebrates the rich history of video games. There is a $25 tech fee.

Welcome to Chicago City Adventure, where urban excitement meets summer fun! Join us for two weeks packed with thrilling activities and iconic Chicago landmarks. Explore Millennium Park, cruise along Lake Michigan, discover the wonders of the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and embrace the energy of Navy Pier. Hike and enjoy the Indiana Dunes beaches. Our camp blends cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and city exploration, providing an unforgettable summer escape right in the heart of Chicago. Let the Windy City be your playground as you create lasting memories with new friends. This camp will depart MPA at 8:35 a.m. each day and be supervised by two MPA teachers. A schedule of activities will be provided prior to the start of camp. The schedule might change according to the weather. Limited to 12 campers.

Block 1
8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a journalist? Come learn how to research and report on all the important things happening at camp MPA. Practice your on-demand writing and non-fiction reading skills. Practice using feedback to improve writing.

Learn how to produce animated cartoons and movies using the same processes as animators at Pixar, Cartoon Network, and Disney do. Create drawings and bring them to life, using production techniques such as timelines and keyframes. Work as part of a team and make friends who share your interests as you explore other animation techniques like claymation and humanimation.

Welcome to the Cardboard Challenge Summer Camp! This exciting camp is designed for elementary school students who are looking for a fun and creative way to spend their summer. Our campers will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials to create unique and innovative projects. Campers will engage in a variety of activities and challenges that will help them develop their problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. They will work in small groups to complete a series of challenges that will test their creativity, ingenuity, and perseverance. By the end of the camp, campers will have developed a greater understanding of the many uses of cardboard and the importance of recycling and repurposing materials. They will also have a sense of pride in the projects they have created and the skills they have developed

In this course we will practice coding by using the BBC Micro:bit microcontroller board and Sphero robots.  Students will get started by learning to program the various inputs and outputs of the Micro:bit.  We will also work with our Sphero Bolt robots and we will overcome various challenges such as racing through a maze and programming a robot that can move autonomously around the room.

10:05 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Geometry and advanced spatial reasoning concepts will be the focus of the final session. Students will explore angles, polygons, transformations, and the concepts of perimeter, area, volume, and more. They will sharpen their geometric understanding and problem-solving skills through projects, discussions, and practical applications.

Join the fabulous and fun Ms. Laura in the kitchen to learn the basics of baking while getting to eat your projects! This class is beginner-friendly and will help students grasp the foundation of how their favorite treats are made so that they can continue to make their own. There is a $25 material fee.

Welcome to “Secret Agents Training Camp,” where young recruits embark on an exciting journey into the mysterious world of espionage! This action-packed class is designed to ignite the imaginations of students as they learn spy tips, crack codes, and unravel thrilling riddles.

Join the Chess Superstars Club and Chess Wizard Robert Simpson to learn and/or elevate your skills in the game of chess! We welcome all levels of experience, and our priority is to make learning chess a fun, engaging experience for all students! Coach Robert Simpson will provide guided teaching, exciting tournaments, mind-challenging puzzles, and the opportunity to earn chess keychains!

In MPA’s Games and Video Games class, Campers rotate between playing fun age-appropriate video games and playing fun, active games. Video games include Minecraft, Roblox, and more!

Block 4
1:35 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Instill good digital citizenship habits by promoting respectful and responsible behavior within the virtual space. Participants will learn about online etiquette, teamwork, and the importance of a positive gaming community. Experienced instructors will guide participants through the Minecraft universe, offering tips, tricks, and inspiration. Foster a sense of curiosity as children explore different biomes, uncover hidden treasures, and encounter unique challenges

The title says it all! Come together to play some of old classics and some new board games as well. Enjoy fun camaraderie with your fellow campers. Games include: Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza card game, Taco V Burrito, UNO, Headbandz, Trouble, Mousetrap, Battleship, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Bingo, and more! The class will also include lessons on how to play in a fair and competitive manner and how to be a good sport. In addition, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills as they learn to play these games. This class is perfect for students who love games and want to learn and play new games with their peers.
